Chief Justice of India inaugurates new building of Karnataka Judicial Academy

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India Mr Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde inaugurated the Phase-1 of the New Building of the Karnataka Judicial Academy on Crescent Road in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Mr Justice Bobde, who came to the Karnataka Judicial Academy in the morning, had breakfast with the brother and sister judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court of Karnataka. He went round the First Phase of the New Building of the Karnataka Judicial Academy, which has three floors, besides, ground floor and two basement floors, along with his brother judges of the Supreme Court Mr Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, Mr S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Mr Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka Mr Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, the Chief Minister Mr B S Yediyurappa, the Deputy Chief Minister Mr Govind M Karajol, who also holds the portfolios of Public Works and Social Welfare and the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr J C Madhu Swamy.

The Chief Minister Mr B S Yediyurappa inaugurated the 319-Seater Multi-Purpose Auditorium, at which the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka Mr Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka felicitated the Chief Justice of India Mr Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde.

The Registrar General of the High Court of Karnataka Mr Rajendra Badamikar felicitate the Chief Minister Mr B S Yediyurappa. The Judges of the Supreme Court Mr Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, released History of Judicial Training in Karnataka from 1978 to 2019 authored by the former Chief Justice of India Mr Justice M N Venkatachalaiah, was felicitated by the Chief Justice of Karnataka. The Judge of the Supreme Court Mr Justice S Abdul Nazeer, unveiled the new motto Vidya Viniyogaat Vikaasaha, which means knowledge blossoms into development in Sanskrit, of the Karnataka Judicial Academy. Mr Justice Abdul Nazeer was felicitated by Mr Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka. The Judge of the Supreme Court Mr Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna released a souvenir brought out by the Karnataka Judicial Academy on the occasion to commemorate the inauguration of the first phase of its new building. Mr Justice Bopanna was also felicitated by the Chief Justice of Karnataka.

The Deputy Chief Minister Mr Govind M Karajol was felicitated by the Principal Secretary in the Department of Law Mr S B Vastramath and the Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation Mr J C Madhuswamy was felicitated by the Director of the Karnataka Judicial Academy Ms Prabhavati M Hiremath.

Many Judges of the High Court of Karnataka, including Ms Justice B V Nagaratna, Mr Justice John Michael Cunha and Mr Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav, were among the galaxy of dignitaries, who graced this special function.

The Chief Secretary to the State Government Mr T M Vijay Bhasker, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government in the Department of Home Mr Rajneesh Goel and senior officers of various departments were present.

Earlier, Mr Justice Ravi Malimath, President of the Karnataka Judicial Academy and Judge of the High Court of Karnataka, in his welcome address said that the academy has so far trained as many as 4000 judicial officers and striving for excellence in the field of judiciary. The Judge of the High Court of Karnataka Mr Justice K N Phaneendra, proposed a vote of thanks.

The function culminated with a group photo of all the judges of the High Court of Karnataka with the dignitaries.

Special Features:
The New Building, built in the first phase, has parking in the lower and the upper basement, which can accommodate 44 cars and 124 two-wheelers, the Ground Floor consists of a 319-seater Multi Purpose Air Conditioned Auditorium, a Lecture Hall with 84 seats, two Lecture Halls with 40 seats each and a VIP Lounge. The First Floor has a Lecture Hall with 84 seats, two Lecture Halls with 40 seats each, a VIP Lounge, two Discussion Room and an Administrative Office for the Staff of the Academy. The Second Floor includes a VIP Lounge, a Large Lounge, an e-Library with a seating capacity of 100, Librarian Office, Library and Magazine Sections, besides, four rooms for the faculty. The Third Floor consists of a VIP Lounge, five Guest Rooms, two Lecture Halls of 40 seats each, one Gym and Fitness Centre, a Mock Court and a Multi Purpose Hall.

The Second Phase, to be built has Parking Facility for 36 four wheelers and 22 two wheelers in the lower basement and 32 four wheelers and 30 two wheelers in the upper basement. The Ground Floor will have one 100-seater and one 130-seater Lecture Hall. The First Floor will be having a front office, a waiting lounge, President’s Chamber, Board Room, one room for the Academy’s Director and six rooms for its Deputy Directors. The Third Floor will be having a Library, which includes Reading Area and Stack Area. The Third Floor will have a Kitchen and a Pantry, a 28-seater VIP Dining Hall and a 200-seater General Dining Hall. The Terrace Floor will have an Atrium, a Court Yard and a Lift Machine Room. The total cost of the Project, including Phase-1 and Phase-2,to be executed by the Public Works Department in the sprawling 2.2 Acres plot of the Karnataka Judicial Academy is Rs 96.02 Crore.
